Don’t drag Buhari into Kano politics, Presidency warns

The Presidency, yesterday warned against dragging President Muhammadu Buhari’s name into the political rift within the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state. Specifically, it clarified that the president had no hand in the removal of the state party chairman, Umar Doguwa, from office.
There is an internal rivalry between the incumbent governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, withsupporters of the two leaders clashing at various times. But warning the politicians against dropping the president’s name, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said it would be unfair to bring his principal into the squabble.
In a statement yesterday in Abuja, he described as false, the accusation that Buhari was behind the removal of the erstwhile party chair. His reaction came against the backdrop of allegations made by a political support group, “Concerned Members of the APC in Kano State,” at a press conference in Kano.
The statement said, “President Buhari would not risk his integrity to support one side against the other in the affairs the APC or any other political party anywhere in the country.
“Anybody who knows the president’s principles would not believe any allegation linking Buhari to interference in the election or removal of party leaders across the country.” He recalled that Buhari had variously been accused of not taking control of the National Assembly by imposing some people on the legislature as Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“I am 100 percent convinced that this group, which is being associated with the respected senator representing Kano, Rabiu Kwankwaso, did not seek his permission before dragging President Buhari ’s name into this matter.
